Hey just joined up nice work from the off looks like a nice site
.
Just one question , do you do all this online or do you go to the store ?
To PriceMatch, you have to go instore, and if doing 9/18+ copies at CEX, then the postage is quite high… So stick to instore too.
But I do phones, MP3 players etc (etc, other electrical gadgets) via post, as they tend to be £10-£20′ish things that cash out for £25-£40, so £4/5 postage is no biggie
Thanks for the reply
. Do you order the stuff offline to take to cex or do you grab it in store? Im not in the city all that much so was looking at doing it all online. (thought posting to cex was free
). I will keep my eye on the site though and hopefully it will be worth me making the trip more often.
I order 99% of the stuff online – that includes the rare “Reserve Online” sort of orders (like PC World).
But ill order online, and depending on the value/potential, ill pay the extra for Express Delivery (this is usually fixed as a maximum on certain sites – like £8.99 on Play.com) so when ordering 36x BluRays, £9 to have them tomorrow is a winner!
Then yes, I walk them into store. Some stores have 9x maximum take-ins, so compared to the website of “5x Per Calendar Month”, means my 36 will take 2 people 2 days – where our 36 online will take the pair of us… 4 months haha!
I too am no where near any of my Gamestations or CEXs, and all require a dedicated drive – but I ensure I have enough to justify it – then go for a jaunt!
Online is ‘okay’ if its HIGH profit and you have a spider sense that the price will plummet. Then you can ‘lock in’ on the advertised price and you have 5 days to get it to them. That would’ve been good on certain deals, like “Click and Collect”, as you’ll have the stock ‘in-hand’ on the day, so sending on the day too – guarantees getting it there for 5 days.
*BUT* Yes – you’re responsible for the postage costs on anything that isn’t a phone (if you select to sell a phone to them – they send you a free post envelope in the mail?!) Not sure why, and don’t know if the wait time for the envelope to arrive is incorporated into the 5 day selling time.
Also, I heard people cheekily combining orders into the same pre-paid bag – and they ACCEPTED it – but I wouldn’t dare try it – In case they do their whole “We’ll recycle it for you” thing and destroy them or something ridiculous!
I just stick to things that will sell instore. It’ll take a couple of days for it to arrive (if I don’t do express) then it’ll be the next working day ill get the opportunity to walk them into the store – so there’s scope for the price to drop – but so far, I haven’t been out of pocket once this year
Thanks for the feedback its much appreciated! Sorry to keep asking questions – however is there a different limit to each stores max that they will accept off you or is it universal? and does each cex store offer a different price or again is it universal. Sorry again for the questions !
No worries about the questions – I have all this useless knowledge from doing this for 5 years+, I should at least attempt to pass it on!
But CEX are franchise stores, so they do tend to “play by their own rules” in regards a lot of aspects (i.e. the leniency of the testing, the limit of selling, the treating of ‘market traders’ etc).
*BUT* They all stick to the same models. I.e. there seems to be a 5 model – and a 9. So they either take 5 (in line with the website, owned and operated by CEX directly). Or they do 9, which appears to be a figure plucked out of the air, but I suspect one store started doing that – and saw their stock levels rise (and subsequently their intake/footfall/sales etc).
So a lot of them have now adopted “The Nine”.
The only thing uniform with them is the pricing. Part of their franchising is that they “buy in” to their software/sales system, so they effectively rent the servers/systems from CEX HQ. So the price you see on the website (buy/sell) is the price you will see/get in ANY CEX store in the UK.
They used to have direct telephone numbers, but they stopped advertising them now. Worse still, those lucky enough to still have the numbers, they no longer connect. They ring and ring and ring, but no phone rings anywhere to be picked up
Used to be easier in regards picking up a phone and banging out some questions – but not anymore!
I’ve learnt most of what I learnt by trial and error.
If you do go over the limit (in my local THREE stores, that’s NINE) then some of the stores refuse (outright). Others treat your 10th onward item as “Bulk” and reduce the price by 10% – and some reduce by up to 50%!
So, whatever the limit – stick to it.
Or get a buddy/partner/stranger to go in with you. I stick to bundles of 18/36, as I can do 9 a day, and bring my brother/missus with me and do another 9. Then I can do that Saturday/Sunday (hoping the price doesn’t drop over night) and that’s 36x in one weekend.
If that’s a £2 cash profit item (which I think we’d agree is quite small fry) then that’s still £72 profit in a weekend (plus subsequent CashBack on the purchases themselves).
Great! Thanks again
I’m all out of questions for now. I am hoping to try this in the near future though so will let you know how i get on!
Good times! Remember to snap away and drop through your photos of your victories
I get quite a few each month – and its always pleasing to know that others have done well.
Also, although a few hug the shadows of animosity – some don’t mind me using them – so if you fancy the fame and a bit of glory (whilst not giving away your real name or secret identity) let me know!
